13 White - Shayna Davis

Hey! My name is Shayna Davis. I am a sophomore at Liberty University and from Gettysburg, Pa. I played school volleyball for seven years and club for five. So, I basically played all year around. When I played club I played for NOVA. I was the varsity captain my junior and senior year of high school. I was a setter and a right side. My major is health and physical education. I have had some coaching experience but not a ton so I am super excited to coach this year! One of my experiences coaching was not planned but, I am glad to have the experience. My junior year club season, I tore my ACL before we had even gone to any tournaments. I was still very adamant on staying a part of the team. My coach at the time asked if I would be okay running practices with him and being his assistant for the rest of the season. This really kept me involved and I think it helped a lot with my recovery. I was cleared 6 months to the date and I was able to play my senior season of school ball. This is why I am so passionate about coaching and so excited about this season! Some things I like to do in my free time are playing beach volleyball intramurals at my school, hanging out with my friends, and going to sporting events. I am so excited for this season and I can’t wait to start!

14 Red - Steve Letterman

My wife Nancy and I live in Appomattox county. I’m a father of three and grandfather of four. We are active at Evergreen Baptist Church. I enjoy running and swinging kettlebells in the gym. I’ve been at BWXT for almost 40 years where I work in machine design and installation. Before BWXT I spent five years in the Navy. That’s where I began playing volleyball. Nothing very high level just ships teams and pick-up when we were in port. In those days we played every position just so we could jump high and swing hard. I like to tell my players that I’ve played bad volleyball all over the world from Honduras to Israel, Cuba and Diego Garcia (look that one up). About 15 years ago one of my daughters took a job at Appomattox Middle School and asked me to help her coach MS volleyball. She coached for a couple years before jumping to administration and leaving the team to me. Over that span I’ve grown to love teaching the game, seeing young athletes grow and the challenges of finding a team’s potential. I’ve been blessed to see and coach two granddaughters through school, rec. and travel and hope to have a few more years before I give up my clipboard.

14 Red - Karen Bunting (Letterman)

I have grown up in Lynchburg for all twenty-one years of my life. My family and I have been a part of HOV since I was twelve, and my little sister, who is about five years younger than me, is currently playing for HOV. Volleyball has been a part of my life since I was in middle school, so in total I have been playing for about ten years, which has given me great knowledge and experience of the sport. Coaching has been something that gives me great joy, and I love being able to pass down my knowledge of volleyball to others.  I still have lots to learn so I also enjoy finding new drills and ways of coaching, which helps me grow my volleyball archive. When I played in high school I was able to play for the Homeschool Patriots which is a local homeschool team, and for travel ball, I played for both HOV and NRV.  Throughout my years of high school and club volleyball, I played almost every position on the floor at least once, however, my specialty and favorite position to play is DS/L. I was blessed to not only play volleyball in high school but I was recruited to play volleyball for Regent University as an outside hitter. Even though I am no longer playing college volleyball I still play competitively at grass and sand tournaments, along with leagues throughout the year in Lynchburg and Roanoke.  I do not have a lot of hobbies outside of volleyball, however cooking, trail running, playing games, and traveling are all things that can take up some of my free time when I am not working or studying. I look forward to coaching and helping girls learn the art of volleyball which is truly one of my greatest passions.
