James River Classic Tournament: March 2-3rd, 2024

We are excited to host your team at the 1st ever James River Classic Tournament here in Lynchburg, Virginia. Our preparations for the tournament are almost complete, and we are looking forward to finalizing the details of the schedule and tournament format. This email contains important tournament details, so please read through it in its entirety. All of this information is on our tournament website

 

The original plan was to host everything at Liberty University, however, they were only able to make 5-6 courts available for us as our tournament was planned before the date of the Spring Football Game was announced. 

 

We will host the majority of the tournament at Liberty University, LaHaye Recreation Center, but one morning wave will take place at Linkhorne Middle School: 2525 Linkhorne Drive, Lynchburg VA 24503.

 

Schedule will be up no later than Wednesday evening!

 

Wave Times:

AM Wave:

12’s, 13’s, 15’s Liberty University, LaHaye Rec Center

16’s Linkhorne Middle School

PM Wave: 

14’s 17/18’s Liberty University, LaHaye Rec Center

 

Tournament Format: 

• All 4-team and 5-team pools will play best out of 3. 

• 12’s, 15’s and 17/18’s 3-team pools will play 3 games to 25 (considered 3 match equivalents)

• 13's will play 2 games to 25

• 16’s 3-team pools will play best out of 3 and go into a crossover match once the pool is completed. 

 

Information Items

 

1. The Liberty University tournament entrance will be on the backside of the LaHaye Recreation Center (there will be signs that say “HOV Volleyball Event” near the entrance doors and by the road where to turn for parking). If you played or are familiar with how we ran our tournament last year in February, the entrance is the same. (Different from the January 2024 tournament).

 

2. The SECOND LOCATION (16’s pools on Saturday) will be at Linkhorne Middle School: 2525 Linkhorne Drive, Lynchburg VA 24503. Here is a LINK on where you will enter the building. Small concessions will be available on site such as drinks, light snacks, and candy. This location will be for the 16’s pools only during the Saturday morning wave. 

 

TEAM CHECK-IN will be available:

• LaHaye Recreation Center (Liberty University)

• Friday night between 6:30-8:30pm, Spectator wristbands available

• $25/ weekend and $15/day. Wristbands can be used at both locations. If you lose your wristband, you will be required to purchase another one. 

• Saturday morning from 7:00am-7:30am for morning pool

• Saturday before 1pm

 

Linkhorne Middle School (Alternate Site)

• Saturday morning only - morning wave only at this alternate location

 

There is NO FOOD allowed in the gym at Liberty University. We will have the Bagel and I food truck each day from 7am-11am right outside the main entrance doors for the tournament (Not the main entrance doors to LaHaye Recreation Center). We will be selling drinks on-site such as: Soda, Gatorade, Celsius, Water, etc. 

Linkhorne Site will have snacks, candy and drinks available for purchase. 

A FOOD COURT is available down the hall from where we are playing at the Liberty University site. You can track what is open on campus using this LINK, specifically food at the Tilley Student Center 1971 University Blvd where our tournament is located. 

SEATING: There will be bleachers at both locations. You are welcome to bring your own chairs as well. Chairs will be allowed on the wood floor but there are specifications on where the chairs can be in the upper two courts at Liberty. 

PARKING is free - Plan ahead for traffic. The Spring Football Game will be played on campus in Williams Stadium on Saturday at 1:30pm. Plan to arrive early to find parking. Men’s Basketball will play on campus in Liberty Arena on Saturday at 7:30pm. Basketball game parking should not interfere with volleyball tournament parking for our tournament. 

ENTRANCE FEES: Both locations will have entrance fees. $25/ weekend and $15/day. Wristbands can be used at both locations. If you lose your wristband, you will be required to purchase another one. 

HOUSING: This is NOT a stay to play tournament.

MERCHANDISE: James River Classic Merchandise and HOV Merchandise will be sold in LaHaye Recreation Center at Liberty University.

VIDEO RECORDING:  Parents - if you video your team - please make sure you are recording from OPPOSITE of the Bench.  No video or fans are allowed behind the bench as per USAV Rules.
